Superman

Of the many people it's been our pleasure to work with, none are more memorable than Gus Gill. Gus was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad & was 63 when he started working with us in the early 90s. He's been in England since the 1950's & brought a rich, mature, sophisticated, farcical, belly splitting laughter into the bar & all our lives. He had a kind of a Sean Connery older man appeal? Although happily married, a family man & model citizen, he thought nothing of charming and flirting with all females within a 30 mile radius. Don't get us wrong, Gus was never serious, he just had an inescapable charm & catalytic laughter-flirty roadshow the girls loved. Gus's crowning moments include

  1. When we would sit around drinking after work and he would sing to us.
  2. When we would take him up to parties in Fenham and he'd go on like the youngest person there.
  3. His top trick, of balancing a full pint glass or bottle of beer on his head and dancing down the bar counter. Hard to believe, but he never, ever spilt a drop. This is one of those rare things you see that is so unexplainable, you start to question if it really happened.

Everyone loved Gus & he is one of the most unique humans we've ever hung out with. He has the wisdom of age & is a natural. We respect that. Gus is now retired & keeps them giggling over in Gateshead, where he lives with his family.
