T-shirts
Since
day 1, we made t-shirts for ourselves & to give to our chums. Throughout
the year we rotate past designs in the downstairs bar. Most notorious was our
1990 'Fuck Racism/Join Hands' which we were instructed by the police to stop
producing. They didn't see the bigger picture and thought 'Fuck' was the most
offensive word on the shirt. When Jamiroquai was playing in Newcastle on his
second ever tour, him & his band came to World Headquarters to wig out after
the show. At the end of the night he sang an accapella happy birthday for Roya
who was a girl who worked with us, who is now a doctor at the RVI. We hung out
etc & exchanged T-shirts. Two weeks later a massive photo of Jay Kay was
featured in the centre pages of the NME holding up our 'F R' shirt, as part
of an anti racism feature. Old skool flavour from a top guy. This shirt is on
permanent display & hangs opposite the bar. Current T-shirt designs will
be available in our online shop from the middle of November.
